This year I decided it was time to get started learning how to use alcohol markers and started doing classes with Alyce Keegan at Kit and Clowder. I have rediscovered my love for colouring and love love colouring with Copic marker as they are easier to hold in my arthritic hands. I am still building up my stock of markers and also learning new colour blends so I have used one of the colour blends from the Birds in Bloom Marker class. I do love this sweet stamp set from Beccy’s Place that I recently purchased through Krafters Cart and I couldn’t wait to have a go with colouring this. And I was very happy with the result.
I struggle with cutting up images that I have spent time colouring in but in this case I did not lose much and I love how the branch of magnolias look like it is coming from the side of the card and looking out over the window to the sky behind. The card front has been inspired by Dawn at WPlus9Design on YouTube.
My project:
I have created a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ top folding card base. I cut a piece of white cardstock 5 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and scored at 1/4″, 1/5″, 4 3/4″ and 5″ along the 5 1/4″ side. I cut a piece of white cardstock 4″ x 5 1/4: and using the cloud stencil from Waffle Flower I stenciled some clouds using Tumbled Glass ink. This was then added to the front of the card.
I die cut the circle out of the centre of the card using a circle die from the Amazing Paper Grace Fluted Classics circle die. I then embossed using the Honey Bee Stamps Dogwood 3D embossing folder and then I then folded the edges using my bone folder. I die cut a circular fluted frame using the Amazing Paper Grace Circle Fluted Classics die and added it around the circle. I added a piece of acetate behind the circle window with some double sided tape. To complete the front of the card I adhere the edges to the edges of the card front.
I stamped the images from Beccy’s Place Magnolia stamp set on Neenah cardstock in Tuxedo Black ink. I coloured the images with Copic Markers and then die cut the images out using the coordinating dies. I die cut another set of blank dies and adhere the coloured images to these. I adhere the branches around the circle and trimmed the single branch to fit the card front. I added some Wink of Stella to the flowers for some subtle shine.
Finally I stamped the sentiment from Beccy’s Place Magnolia set on black cardstock with Wow embossing ink and heat embossed with white cardstock. I trimmed the sentiment and adhered it to the bottom right of the card with some foam tape. (I would stamp the sentiment before embossing the front next time). And then I added some clear iridescent gems around the flowers and sentiment.
