Classic Rose Tutorial

Kia Ora and Welcome

Today I would like to share how I make my roses using the Heartfelt Creations Classic Rose stamp and die set.  I have had a number of request on how to shape and layer the petals for the roses so here we are.  I am still trying to get the courage to do a video of how I make them, but I will get there one day.

I use 230 gsm to 250 gsm cardstock as I find it is better for getting a better flower shape when using the shaping stylus.  I also use the Heartfelt Creations Deluxe Flower Shaping kit as it has a wide variety of balls to fit in the stylus to get a range of different effects.  The smaller the ball size the more creased and distressed finish you will get.  The larger the ball size the more rounded and fuller effect will be achieved.

I generally stamp a lot of roses at once and have them ready to go when I need them.  For these roses I have stamped with Pearlescent Coral (my new favourite colour!) and then sponged the centres with Memento Canteloupe before die cutting with the coordinating die.  Then I sponged the edges with the Pearlescent Coral ink for a lovely soft look.

To make a medium rose I use the following shapes from the stamp with 6 images:

I mist the back of the flowers as I find it a lot easier getting more dimension and shape with the flowers.  Using a 3 mm ball tip shape the flowers on the back and then turn over and press down in the centres of the flowers.  For the bud do not turn over and press in the centre for a bud shape.

For the bud take two opposing petals and using Dries Clear glue overlap them together.  Once that has set glue the remaining petals and overlap them around the centre bud.  This creates a lovely pointed bud in the centre of the roses.  I usually do the buds first to allow them to dry fully before putting the roses together.

Make sure the card is dry fully before starting to put the flowers together.  Adhere the two largest layers together and ensure that the petals overlap.  Allow to dry and settle.

Add the third layer and push down in the centre with your stylus to create a well for the bud to go in.

Finally add the bud to the centre and allow to dry.  Add glitter or Frosting Powder for a glittery effect.

Here are the layers I have used for a large flower:

Small flower:

I use the buds often to balance my arrangements and they can be put under leaves or flowers for good effect.

Don’t forget to shape the leaves as well to finish of the dimensional effect.  I use foam dots to the leaves when adhering to my projects.

I hope that this helps you create your own beautiful roses.  Everyone has their own style so just play with different shapes and sizes to get the effect that you want.  And play with different colour combinations.

And finally here is a card that I made with the flowers.

Have a good week and Happy Crafting.

Best Wishes from Heartfelt Creations

Welcome back

Today I will be featuring a card that was going to be my first design for the Heartfelt Creations Design Team, but unfortunately, I was unable to use it as the Elegant Sentiment stamp and die set was sold out.  I was very sad to see it go as it was so easy to add a beautiful sentiment on a card.

Materials used:

HCPC-3752 Classic Rose Stamp

HCD1-7113 Blushing Rose Stem Die

HCPC-3755 Blushing Rose Stem Stamp

TSMP709 Memento Rhubarb Stalk ink

TSMP103 Memento Canteloupe ink

HC-401CST1 Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit

HCDA2-450 Stack and Store Daubers

159723 Art Glitter Dries Clear Adhesive

Other products – White cardstock, Anna Griffin Aviary embossing folder, die cutting machine

Instructions:

Cut a piece of white cardstock at 10” x 7”, score and crease at 5” to make a 7” x 5” base card.

Cut a piece of white cardstock 5” x 7” and using the lace border and edge die from the HCD1-712 Fleur Border Basics die cut the edge as shown.  Emboss the top part with the Aviary embossing folder and adhere to the top half of the card.  Adhere the lace edge to the embossed edge as shown.

To make the leaves stamp the images from the HCPC-3755 Blushing Rose Stem Stampwith Northern Pine and sponge with Rhubarb Stalk and Bamboo Leaves inks.  Die cut and shape using the Deluxe Shaping Kit.  Add along the curved border with Dries Clear Glue and foam squares.

To make the flowers stamp the images from the HCPC-3752 Classic Rose Stamp using the Orchid ink.  Sponge the centres with the Canteloupe ink and die cut using the coordinating die.  Sponge the edges of the petals with the Orchid ink front and back and ink the centres of the backs with Canteloupe ink.  Using the Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit shape the petals into a ball.   I have used the very small 2 mm tip to get more shaping of the petals.  Starting with the smallest petals and using the Art Glitter Dries Clear glue the petals together in a ball.  Add the next sized petals over the smallest petal layers to create a bigger ball.  Continue to add the petal layers for a ‘bourbon rose’ shape.  Use less or more layers to create a variety of sizes.  Add the flowers as shown in the photo.

Stamp the image from HCSD1-2012 Elegant Sentiments (NLA) in Tuxedo Black ink, die cut with the coordinating die and add to the bottom of the card.
