Just Saying Hello – An Elegant Blue, White & Gold Handmade Card

Sometimes the simplest message can be the most meaningful. This “Just Saying Hello” handmade card was created as a sweet little reminder that someone is thinking of you. I wanted the design to feel elegant and timeless, so I chose a classic combination of blue, white and gold, with plenty of delicate details to add that extra touch of luxury.

Design Inspiration

The colour palette was the starting point for this card. The combination of soft blue, crisp white and touches of gold creates a beautifully sophisticated look without making the card feel too formal.

I layered the blue and white cardstock to create a little dimension, then added decorative frames and motifs to bring some intricate detail to the design. The layered elements help draw the eye towards the centre of the card, where the sentiment takes pride of place.

The Sentiment

For the focal point, I created a decorative label featuring the sentiment “Just Saying Hello.” The words were heat embossed in gold, giving them a lovely raised finish and a beautiful metallic shine.

Gold heat embossing is such a simple way to add elegance to a handmade card, and it works particularly well against the soft blue and white layers.

Finishing Touches

A pretty blue ribbon bow adds a soft, feminine touch and complements the blue cardstock beautifully and a heart charm beneath the bow adds depth of feeling to the card. To finish the design, I added pearl accents, bringing a subtle touch of shimmer and sophistication to the decorative elements.

The combination of ribbon, pearls and gold embossing creates just enough sparkle while allowing the beautiful decorative die-cut details to remain the star of the design.

Final Thoughts

I love how this card shows that you don’t need a specific occasion to send someone a handmade card. Sometimes a simple “Just Saying Hello” is all that’s needed to brighten someone’s day.

The classic blue, white and gold colour combination, decorative layers, gold embossed sentiment, ribbon and pearls all come together to create a card that is elegant, thoughtful and perfect for sending a little hello to someone special.

A little card, a little hello, and a lovely reminder that someone is thinking of you.

Let’s Celebrate Pink Fresh Studio July 2024 Challenge

Here is my second card for the Pink Fresh Studio Challenge July 2024 this month. This month the challenge is using Geometric designs on your projects and the coordinating inks are: Cherry Blossom, Mimosa, Marigold, Summer Shower & Eucalyptus.

For my card todayI have got my inspiration from Dawn from WPlus9 Design for a pop-up frame card using the Pink Fresh Studio Vines and Roses Stamp, Stencil and Dies set and the Pink Fresh Studio Stained Glass Hot Foil Plate and die to meet the brief for this challenge. You can get the instructions on how to create a pop-up frame card here. I have switched up her design to make it my own by showing a hot foiled design from the Pink Fresh Studio Stained Glass Hot Foil Plate through the aperture and using the Pink Fresh Studio Essentials Stitched Scallop Square Dies to create the aperture in the front. I also added a piece of acetate behind the window to allow me to put the scallop edge die in to create the frame as well as adding the hot foiled sentiment on the front.

For the images I have heat embossed the stamped images with gold embossing powder to tie the florals and foliage to the gold in the hot foiled sentiments and background.

And to finish the card I have added some Crystal Stickles to the flowers and leaves and some clear with gold dust gems for some sparkle.

A whole new world coming to New Zealand with Close to My Heart

I have just been to the Close to My Heart Opportunity Event in Auckland last week and I am very excited about this opportunity.  The career pathway looks great and the products will allow people to be a lot more creative.  I have put a Cricut Expressions 2 on layby and can’t wait to get the cartridges from CTMH to play with.  They look so cool and it will be nice to be able to make my own embellishments to match my scrapbook layouts and cards.  I am also looking to the three dimensional elements on the cartridge and will be looking at doing some workshops at Make Shift when Make Shift gets established.  The other thing that is really cool is that I can just do parties online as well as doing parties with people.

We had a little play with some inks, papers and cute glitter embellishments and the papers and cardstock are lovely.  It took a while to work out how to use the ink pads, but I have got it sussed now.  The stamps are great and easy to use and I will be looking at building up my CTMH stamp kits.  I am also looking forward to playing with the alcohol markers as well.

Just as well I have joined a de-stash Facebook site to start clearing out some of my old stock to make room for Close to My Heart.

In the meantime I have got back to basics and will be teaching heat embossing at my card making class tomorrow at the Upper Hutt Library.  When I first started doing cards too many years ago to remember I started with heat embossing and I still have my heat tool as well (which is starting to get a little sick and I will finally get a new one once I sign up with CTMH).  I remember a lot of hit and misses then, but I have discovered using a embossing buddy (a kind of chalk in a bag) that helps with keeping the card clean and my endeavours are much more successful now.  Here are a few of the cards I have made with heat embossing:

I found some papers that I bought years ago as a 6 x 6 paper pack at The Warehouse and they matched perfectly with the pink cardstock from Stampin‘Up.  I also like the combination of gold and pink and the result is some very retro looking cards, but some people still like these classic cards so I will be putting them in Make Shift as well.  I have coloured the images using a watercolour pen and Stampin’Up inks.  I have also used my artist quality paints in the past with good effect as well.

For the heat embossing I have used a versamark ink pad and the powder is Ultra Detail Embossing Powder – gold.

I hope the ladies tomorrow get inspired to branch out and do more with their stamps and inks.

I am now going to look at doing some digital scrapbooking to get put onto canvases for Make Shift to sell.
