Creating Soft and Elegant Sympthy Cards

Kia ora Koutou

Today I’m sharing a sympathy card created in soft shades of white and cream — a timeless palette that feels peaceful, comforting, and full of grace. When designing for occasions like this, I find that texture and dimension can speak far more beautifully than bold colour ever could.

By layering delicate elements and incorporating subtle shine, this card offers a gentle elegance that feels thoughtful and sincere.

Dies were provided by Amazing Paper Grace for today’s creation.

Design Inspiration

For this project, I wanted to create depth using tone-on-tone layers. The embossed background provides a beautiful foundation, adding texture without distracting from the focal elements.

The handcrafted florals are layered in varying shades of white and warm cream, giving natural dimension while maintaining a cohesive, serene look. Shaping the petals adds softness and life to the arrangement, creating a focal cluster that feels organic and balanced.

A hot foiled sentiment completes the design. The subtle gleam against the matte embossed background adds refinement and just the right amount of visual interest, while keeping the overall look calm and understated.

Design Details

  • Colour Palette: Soft whites, warm creams and soft pastel florals and foliage
  • Background: Embossed panel for subtle texture
  • Florals: Handcrafted blooms with gentle shaping
  • Sentiment: Hot foiled for a refined touch
  • Finishing Touches: Keep embellishments minimal — perhaps a few tiny pearls if desired

Step-by-Step

  1. Create the Card Base
  2. Emboss the Background Panel
    • Emboss a pearl panel using a detailed embossing folder to add texture and dimension. Adhere to the card front.
  3. Add the Decorative Frame
    • Die cut a rectangle frame out of white mirror cardstock and add it to some cream glitter card with foam tape before adding to the front of the card. Add a panel to the centre of the frame using pearl card stock.
  4. Die Cut the Decorative Finishes
    • Die cut the top and bottom ‘trinkets’ out of white mirror cardstock, stack with another plain die and add to the top and bottom of the frame.
  5. Die Cut & Assemble Florals and Foliage
    • Cut floral elements from soft floral shaping paper. Colour with soft blue and yellow inks before gently shaping the petals for dimension and layer them together to form dimensional blooms. Die cut the leaves out of pearl cardstock and colour with green ink.
  6. Arrange the Floral Cluster
    • Build a balanced floral arrangement on the card front using the flowers and leaves.
  7. Add the Hot Foiled Sentiment
    • Foil the sentiment in a soft metallic finish and adhere it to the focal area with foam tape. For extra strength I have die cut a plain die cut and stacked them together.

Finishing Touches

Keep embellishments minimal — a few small pearls can enhance the elegance without overpowering the design. And butterflies in coordinating colours also works well with the sympathy theme of the card.

Final Thoughts

Sympathy cards often call for restraint and softness. By focusing on texture, layering, and subtle shine, this soft white and cream with a touch of pastel palette creates a card that feels comforting and refined.

I hope this design inspires you to explore tone-on-tone layering combined with soft pastel handcrafted flowers along with the beauty of simplicity in your own cardmaking.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. 🤍

Amazing Paper Grace Magnolia Frame Card

Kia ora Koutou

I apologise for not posting anything for a while but I had a bad fall at the end of last year and ended up with concussion and a broken nose. The concussion was causing a lot of issues and I had to take a break away from using the computer and my devices to allow my brain to heal. I have been attending Concussion Clinic and that has also been really helpful with exercises to get my brain back together. I am almost back to my ‘normal’ self and it is time to get back to what I enjoy doing best which is cardmaking.

While I was away from screens I did a lot of colouring with Copic markers as I found it very relaxing and therapeutic and it settled a lot of the headaches. The image I have used today is from one of Kit and Clowder’s bonus classes from Nov/Dec 2024. As I could not follow the colouring on the computer I just coloured the flower by going of Alyce’s colouring in the booklet that was provided with the class and I am so happy how it turned out. I then used the Amazing Paper Grace Adoria Square Frame die from the Amazing Paper Grace Shadowbox collection by Becca Feeken too create a frame for the image and which could also be used as a card. I left putting a sentiment on the front so that if I use it as a card I can add the appropriate sentiment or it can be kept as a frame on a table.

Dies were provided by Amazing Paper Grace for today’s creations.

My Project

My card is 6″ x 6″ and I have layered white and brushed gold cardstock with foam tape to create the base for the floral image.

To add more texture I die cut two of the medium sized decorative squares out of white cardstock and trimmed each in half and added it to the four corners of the top layer of white cardstock. I then added some white satin ribbon to cover the joins.

I then cut a piece of white cardstock 5″ x 5″ and die cut the square aperture out using the larger square die from the Adoria Square die. Using this as a template I added the coloured image to the card base and then added the frame with foam tape.

I die cut two outer decorative frames from white cardstock and adhered them together before adding them to the frame.

To complete the card I added pearls to the inner edge of the frame and on the decorative frame and then added a white satin bow to the base of the frame and added more pearls over the bow.

Amazing Paper Grace | The Seasonal Label Motifs Collection Intro Blog Hop

I have two cards and a tag to share with you today to celebrate the launch of the beautiful Amazing Paper Grace Seasonal Motifs collection by Becca Feeken. I loved the simplicity of the card that has been created for the packaging and made a card and tag creating a scene with the dies in the Amazing Paper Grace Winter Label Motifs Etched Dies from Seasonal Label Motifs Collection by Becca Feeken My second card has been inspired by a card by Becca Feeken where she has used this gorgeous background die as a pink on pink card for the Right Words Collection

Projects created today were used with dies provided by Amazing Paper Grace.

My Projects for Today

I have created two cards and a tag using the Amazing Paper Grace Winter Label Motifs Etched Dies from Seasonal Label Motifs Collection by Becca Feeken. I have created a winter themed card and coordinating tag using all the dies in the set that could be also be used for Christmas cards. My second card features the beautiful Amazing Paper Grace Anabelle’s Trousseau Layering Frame Medium die by Becca Feeken to create a base for the label dies, birthday sentiment from the Amazing Paper Grace Happy Occasion Words Etched Dies from the Right Words Collection by Becca Feeken and pretty flowers from the Amazing Paper Grace Petite Floral Bouquet Die set by Becca Feeken.

The Amazing Paper Grace Winter Label Motifs Etched Dies from Seasonal Label Motifs Collection by Becca Feeken consists of 17 dies to create gorgeous scenes for cards, scrapbooks and home decor.

The Amazing Paper Grace Seasonal Motif Sentiments Clear Stamp Set from Seasonal Label Motifs Collection by Becca Feeken is designed to coordinate with the Amazing Paper Grace Seasonal Motifs collection by Becca Feeken.

I have added texture using the Spellbinders Forever Green embossing folder and die cut the label in the centre out using the smaller label die from the Amazing Paper Grace Winter Label Motifs Etched Dies from Seasonal Label Motifs Collection by Becca Feeken and then added the frame to the card front using foam tape. This has created a recess for the decorated inner label to fit into. I then die cut a frame using the outer and inner label die out of the blue cardstock to create a frame for the inner decorated scene.

I have ink blended the background for the centre to create a snowy background.

I have used two different colour greens to create some depth to the trees.

The small house has been die cut out of white and blue cardstock and I trimmed the smoke of the house of the blue die and added it to the white die. And adding the white windows and white roof has helped to give some dimension to the house and enabled it to stand out from the trees and fence.

This tag is great to add to a gift for Christmas or just because…

I have die cut the outside label using white cardstock and then die cut a frame using the outer and inner label die out of the blue cardstock to create a frame for the inner decorated scene.

For my second card I have added the blue decorative dies from the beautiful Amazing Paper Grace Anabelle’s Trousseau Layering Frame Medium die by Becca Feeken to the blue background and added some silver accents to create more interest.

I have adhered the blue sentiment to the silver sentiment and slightly offset the sentiments to create a shadow on the card.

Clear iridescent jewels add some sparkle to the card.

Butterflies are always welcome on a floral bouquet.

The labels are perfect to add to a pretty base and add the sentiment of your choices.

The larger leaves are from the Amazing Paper Grace Layered Lilies Etched Dies from the Layered Fleur Bouquet Slimlines Collection by Becca Feeken and I have used the smaller leaves from the Amazing Paper Grace Winter Label Motifs Etched Dies from Seasonal Label Motifs Collection by Becca Feeken.

Beautiful Sentiment Vignettes I Heartfelt Thanks

Beautiful card front sentiments do the heavy lifting on a card and the recipient knows exactly what you are trying to say. In that spirit, today we are introducing a new collection called Beautiful Sentiment Vignettes. It spins beautiful, intertwined calligraphic words into a compact label shape, perfect for the front of your card.

Dies for my creations today were supplied by Amazing Paper Grace.

Beautiful Sentiment Vignettes Inspiration

Many Amazing Paper Grace followers were so thrilled when the first 3D Vignettes with word inserts came out. Over time, our followers have asked for a greater variety of words to fit into the 3D Vignette apertures. Your wish is our command!

Beautiful Sentiment Vignettes Collection

The Beautiful Sentiment Vignettes Collection is made up of 7 different die sets and a stamp set. Most sets contain a sentiment and a filigree background layer. Each set makes it quite easy to produce a complete card. The bonus is the sentiment shapes each match an existing 3D Vignette. Along with being able to complete a card, the new sentiments will allow another sentiment to existing 3D Vignettes already in your stash. Romantic Chargeour works with all the sentiments.

Beautiful Sentiment Vignettes Collection also contains an “inside” sentiment set that matches the thought on the outside of the card. To top off the collection we’ve included Petite Floral Potpourri. It’s a compilation of all the small flowers and leaves that are most requested by our community.

My Projects for Today

For my projects I’m using the Amazing Paper Grace Heartfelt Thanks Vignette Etched Dies from Beautiful Sentiment Vignettes Collection by Becca Feeken decorated with some pretty flowers made with the gorgeous flowers from the Amazing Paper Grace Petite Floral Potpourri Etched Dies from Beautiful Sentiment Vignettes Collection by Becca Feeken.

I love how you can mix and match Amazing Paper Grace dies to create beautiful cards. Here I have used the Amazing Paper Grace Annabelle’s Trousseau Layering Frame Medium Etched Dies Chantilly Paper Lace Collection by Becca Feeken as a background to the Amazing Paper Grace Heartfelt Thanks Vignette Etched Dies from Beautiful Sentiment Vignettes Collection by Becca Feeken. To finish I have added the Amazing Paper Grace Elegant Twist Ovals Etched Dies from the Elegant Twist Collection by Becca Feeken to frame the sentiment.

I have used Amazing Paper Grace Petite Floral Potpourri Etched Dies from Beautiful Sentiment Vignettes Collection by Becca Feeken to create some wisterias to finish the card. The leaves are from the Amazing Paper Grace Sweet Cottage Flowers Etched Dies 3D Vignette Mini Album Collection by Becca Feeken. There will be a tutorial on how I have made these flowers on the Amazing Paper Grace – Encouragement Group on Facebook here.

Designers Tip:

Have fun mixing and matching Amazing Paper Grace dies to create flowers to create your cards..

For my card I have used the outline decorative die as a stencil and coloured with some inks to match my background cardstock. To finish the stencil look I have embossed the die to make the colours pop out of the background. I have then die cut three sentiment dies and layered them together for more dimension and to make the sentiment stand out. I kept the flowers simple to allow the sentiment be the focus.

Be creative with your die cuts and look at using them as stencils.
