Blue and White Daisy Shaker Birthday Card Inspiration

Kia ora Koutou

For today’s card, I’m sharing a blue and white birthday shaker card featuring cheerful daisies, soft ink blending, and subtle dry embossing. This design combines a calm, classic colour palette with a fun interactive element—perfect for a birthday card that feels both elegant and joyful.

Dies were provided by Amazing Paper Grace for today’s creation.

The Design Inspiration

Blue and white will always be one of my favourite colour combinations. It’s calm, timeless, and effortlessly elegant—but for this birthday card, I wanted to give it a playful edge by turning it into a shaker and adding some pretty blue daisies for a soft feminine card that is easy to mass produce. Think of the different colour combinations you can use.

Simple and Fresh Colour Combination

Keeping to a simple colour palette helps the design feel fresh and airy, which is especially important when adding a shaker element. The subtle variation in the blending and embellishments adds depth without competing with the rest of the card.

Adding Texture, Depth and Interest

Dry embossing adds quiet texture to the background, catching the light as the card moves. I love how embossing works with shaker cards—it adds interest even when the shaker elements have settled, so the card never feels flat.

Frame the Florals and Sentiments with a Shaker Element

The daisy window is the real star of the design. Crisp blue daisies paired with a clear shaker opening keep the look clean while still allowing for movement and fun. I chose a simple shaker mix to complement the soft blue background rather than overwhelm it, letting the daisies stay front and centre.

Sentiment – Happy Birthday

Finished with a small, understated birthday sentiment, this card balances elegance and playfulness beautifully. It’s cheerful without being busy, and interactive without losing that calm, clean aesthetic.

Step by Step Instructions

  • I began by creating the background using blue ink blending. The dark blue layer helps to anchor the colour combination and create a strong base.
  • Once the blending was complete, I dry embossed a vellum panel to introduce texture over the blue background. Dry embossing is one of my favourite ways to add dimension without bulk, and it works beautifully with ink-blended backgrounds by catching the light and adding quiet detail. Add some white ink over the embossing to emphasise the texture.
  • For the shaker element I started by softly ink blending blue inks on the bottom right corner and then stamped the birthday wishes on the white corner.
  • To complete the shaker element I die cut 4 frames out of white cardstock and then stacked them together before adding them to the previously ink blended panel. I added some clear sequins to the centre of the frame before adding some acetate and the final frame. A clear window and a simple shaker mix add movement and fun without overwhelming the design.
  • The daisies and leaves were die cut out of white cardstock and I have used two of the lightest blue inks to colour the daisies and some coordinating green ink for the leaves. The flowers were assembled and then added to the bottom right of the shaker frame over the ink blended corner. The blue daisies coordinated with the blended backgrounds beautifully and the green leaves really add a pop to the card.
  • To finish the card I added some soft yellow Prills to the centre of the large daisies and some sequins around the flowers and sentiment.

Why I Love This Design

This card shows how shaker cards don’t have to be bold or busy to be impactful. By using a limited colour palette, simple florals, and subtle texture, the finished card feels soft, playful, and versatile—ideal for birthdays of any age.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope this blue and white daisy shaker card inspires you to mix classic colours with interactive elements in your own cardmaking.

Share the Joy

I’d love to know — is there another colour combination you would use?

And don’t forget to pin this project for later inspiration — you’ll definitely want to revisit it when the you need to make an extra special card for someone.

Elegant Blue & White Birthday Card Design

Kia Ora Koutou

💙✨Blue and white never looked this elegant 💙✨

A blue and white decorative lacy birthday card with accents of silver featuring pretty lemon and white daisies with soft green leaves is always a classic and timeless look. Add an elegant “Happy Birthday” die in the center surrounded by a soft pastel background and gentle shadows for depth completes the overall aesthetic which is refined, feminine, and sophisticated.

Create elegant backgrounds to your cards with just three dies. Use one die for the background by trimming the dies in half to create the corners for the base. Add the remaining trimmed dies to the second layer and with some pretty accents with a medallion die and then add the third layer with a statement die that highlights the birthday sentiment. Amazing Paper Grace dies work so well together to create an infinite range of designs.

And we must not forget the layered daisy flowers that add the feminine touch! These daisies are incredibly easy to create quickly and can be coloured so many different combinations to suit all designs.

And of course any card made using Amazing Paper Grace dies has to have pearls to complete the card.

An Amazing Paper Grace Rose and Filigree Birthday Card

Kia Ora Koutou

One of my favourite colour combinations when making cards is pink and gold and today I have a gorgeous birthday card just full of pink and gold with a touch of ivory. In June of this year I made a totally different card (for me that is) using the Amazing Paper Grace Rose and Filigree Duo Slip in Card Etched Dies that was full of drama with a black and red colour combination and yet was very easy to make using the ‘slip in’ component of the dies. You can see the card here. For today’s card I have used the rose filigree decorative dies to create a beautiful background for some layered dies, some cherry blossoms and a lovely birthday sentiment finished with a coordinating pink and gold silk ribbon bow.

Dies were provided by Amazing Paper Grace for today’s creations.

My Project

For my project today I have created a top folding 5″ x 6 card out of white cardstock. I trimmed a piece of pink and cream striped paper from Mintay and added added a strip of pink and gold ribbon down the centre of the paper before adding it to the front of the card.

I die cut four decorative rose filigree dies from the Amazing Paper Grace Rose and Filigree Duo Slip in Card Etched Dies – two from pink cardstock and two from gold cardstock. The gold dies were adhered behind the pink dies slightly offset for a hint of gold. These dies were then added to the front of the card.

I die cut a piece of pink cardstock using the base die from the same die set and used my trimmer to cut a frame 1/4 wide out of the paper. I then added the frame to the front of the card with some foam strips.

For the oval frames in the centre of the card I used cream and gold cardstocks using the Amazing Paper Grace Elegant Twist Oval Etched dies, pink cardstock for the Amazing Paper Grace Petite Picot Etched Dies and cream cardstock for the Amazing Paper Grace Fluted Oval Etched Dies on top.

I made some cherry blossoms using the dies from the Amazing Paper Grace Layered Cherry Blossoms Etched Dies out of pink cardstock, the leaves from green cardstock and the branch from brown cardstock. I added some Cherry Blossom inks to the centre of the pinks flowers before assembling them. The flowers were draped over the top right of the oval frames.

The sentiment is from the Amazing Paper Grace Make a Scene Celebration Scene Etched Dies and I have die cut three layers – two from pink cardstock and one from gold cardstock. This was then added to the centre of the oval frames on an angle.

To finish the card I have added a pink and gold silk ribbon bow to the top of the card and added some gold pearls to the bow, the centres of the flowers and to highlight the sentiment.

Happy Birthday with Pink Fresh Studio

Kia ora Koutou

I enjoy colouring with alcohol markers but sometimes it is good to use stencils to colour my images as it makes it quick and easy to make a card. When I first got this Pink Fresh Studio Nothing But The Best Stamp & Die Set I wondered how it would look with a die cut edge when I saw a video that Bibi Cameron did on YouTube here using acetate to make a die cut edge be more stable. So I used the same concept but just did it a little differently and I was very happy with how it turned out. I added an extra layer of the die cut edge on top as well as another layer of the flowers to add some dimension to the card.

I also had some fun with embossing the Plaid Press Plate. using my Platinum machine and the lovely soft finish to the embossed edge came from a happy accident. I had tried inking the plate before embossing but it did not work out well and thought I had cleaned the plate but it wasn’t and it came out with this lovely soft aqua colour and it just worked so well with the colours I had used in the flowers. Especially as I had used an aqua colour (Turquoise) to ink the images first and also with the sentiment. I added a 1 1/2″ x 5 3/8″ strip to the bottom of the inside back to be able to show up the flowers better.

I struggle with leaving a lot of white space and as I had some of the plaid embossed card left I added a small strip and another coordinating plain aqua strip to the top of the card to cover the lacy edge from the Pink Fresh Studio Lacey Edgers 1 Dies.

Amazing Paper Grace Lattice Quadrante

Kia ora Koutou

Today my card combines two of my favourite methods of cardmaking – die cutting and flower making using Amazing Paper Grace dies. I have used the Amazing Paper Grace Die of the Month September 2020 Lattice Quadrante as the base for pretty flowers and an elegant sentiment and finished with some gorgeous butterflies. I love how easy it is to create beautiful, elegant and classic cards with Amazing Paper Grace dies.

Dies were provided by Amazing Paper Grace for today’s creations.

My Project

For my card I have created a top folding 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card base out of white cardstock. I have then layered gold, white and pale blue cardstock to the front of the card. I cut a piece of white cardstock slightly smaller than the blue panel and die cut the top right and bottom left using the decorative insert corner inserts from the Amazing Paper Grace Lattice Quadrante dies. I then die cut four more stand alone corner dies using both the decorative inserts and the edge dies – two from blue cardstock and two from gold cardstock. I adhered the gold corners under the blue corners slightly offsetting the gold to allow a peak of gold. I then adhered the corners over the previously cut corners before adding this panel to the front of the card.

I die cut the leaves from the Amazing Paper Grace Cinch and Go III dies out of green cardstock and adhered them over the bottom left corner lattice. I die cut, coloured and shaped the flowers from the same die set, assembled them and added them over the leaves. I die cut small filler flowers from the Amazing Paper Grace Petite Floral Potpourri dies and coloured them in yellow and blue inks, I shaped them and added wire stamens through the centres of the flowers, trimmed the wires and added them to around the larger pink flowers. To finish the bouquet I added some gold leaves from the Amazing Paper Grace Pinkaboo Trellis Dies.

I die cut three ‘With Love’ sentiments from the Amazing Paper Grace With With Love Regalia Card Builder Dies – two from pale blue cardstock and one from gold cardstock. These dies were stacked together with the gold die on top and then added to the top right lattice corner as shown.

I stamped the sentiment from the Amazing Paper Grace Lyrical Layered Florals Stamp and Die Set in embossing ink and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. This was then die cut with the coordinating die and I also die cut a plain die and added the embossed sentiment on top. I added this over the die cut sentiment using some foam squares.

To finish the cards I made two butterflies from the Amazing Paper Grace Summer Label Motif Dies out of vellum and accented with gold bodies. These were added around the sentiment as shown.

Interactive Car Themed Birthday Card

Kia ora Koutou

One of my brother-in-laws loves VW cars and has his own VW Beetle which is his pride and joy, so I always try to make a birthday card featuring a VW car. I had an old Crafter’s Companion Die-sire ‘Circle Swing’ die set and this became a fun interactive base for the car. He also loves gardening and I have used Honey Bee Stamps: Lovely Layers – Spring Greenery Honey Cuts and Lovely Layers – Dianthus Honey Cuts to decorate the card. The stamp is from Montarga Rubber Stamps shop and it fitted perfectly on the card framed with all the flowers and foliage.

My Project

For my project I die cut and assembled the base card following the instructions from the ‘Circle Swing’ die set. I used the Heartfelt Creations Snowy Pines pale green paper as a background for the decorative dies.

I stamped the VW car image using Memento ink on copic friendly cardstock. I coloured the image with Copic markers and then fussy cut the image. I placed this image on the inner circle that is facing the front when the card is folded up.

I die cut three ‘happy birthday’ dies from the Amazing Paper Grace Happy Occasions Words Dies, stacked them together and then added them to the back side of the inner circle.

I die cut the foliage and flowers from the Honey Bee Stamps: Lovely Layers – Spring Greenery Honey Cuts dies in different colours and assembled them before adding them to the sides of the card and both front and back of the inner circle. I coloured the Honey Bee Stamps: Lovely Layers – Dianthus with purple and green inks before assembling them and adding them around the foliage as shown.

A Masculine Card for BMW Lovers

Kia ora Koutou

Today I have a masculine card that is perfect for those who love BMW cars. I was asked to do a BMW themed card for my husband’s colleague and I ended up making two cards for her to choose from with a BMW theme and this was one of the cards. I have used the BMW colours Black, Blue and White (although the blue is not exact) to create this card and the Heartfelt Creations French Courtyard Dies was perfect to frame an approximation of the BMW Logo. I added some more shine and sophistication to the card with a silver hot foiled sentiment from Spellbinders and I also added a sentiment to the inside of the card to make this an extra special card. The BMW logo has been made using a combination of the Heartfelt Creations Basic Circle Dies – Large and Small and the Heartfelt Creations Letters and Numbers Dies and I was very happy with how it turned out. This card is really quite dramatic and perfect for anyone men or women who are into this brand of car.

Sea Breeze Happy Birthday Card

Kia ora Koutou

Today I am sharing a card I made for my brother-in-law for his birthday. He is a keen sailor and loves the ocean so I made a special card for him using a combination of Heartfelt Creations Sea Breeze and Honey Bee Stamps Lovely Layers dies. The Heartfelt Creations Ornate Window Cling stamp and coordinating die set is one I use a lot and here I have created an ornate window frame looking out onto a seascape with a light house and finished it with dogwood flowers and a cute bird.

My Project

I have made a side folding 5″ x 7″ base card out of white cardstock. I then layered gold and light green paper on the front.

I stamped the light house image from the Heartfelt Creations Sea Breeze Harbour cling stamp set on X-Press It card and coloured it with Copic markers. I stamped a plain image of Magic Masking Paper and trimmed it to cover the image I had coloured. I then ink blended some sky in the background using the Waffle Flower Cloud Stencil and ink blended the sea with pale yellow and blue inks. I then die cut it out with the plain window die from the Heartfelt Creations Ornate Window Frame cling stamp set and adhered it to the front of the card.

I then stamped the window frame image twice from the Heartfelt Creations Ornate Window Frame Cling stamp on gold cardstock and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. I die cut one full frame including the window panes and the window, and one ornate heading from these images. I glued the window to some acetate and then trimmed to fit the window. I added the outside decorative frame to the front of the coloured image with foam tape and then added the window inside the frame.

I die cut the bird from the Honey Bee Stamps: Lovely Layers – Spring Birds Honey Cuts using grey, black and white colours to represent seagulls and added it to the top right of the window frame. I then die cut the dogwood flowers from the Honey Bee Stamps: Lovely Layers – Dogwood Honey Cuts and assembled them and added them to the bottom left of the window frame.

To finish I stamped the sentiment from the Honey Bee Stamps Mini Sentiments Stamp set in Jet Black ink on white cardstock and die cut it with the coordinating die. This was added to the window frame as shown.

Happy Birthday Sunshine

Kia ora Koutou

I have been going through my considerable stash of dies that I have and I decided it was time to start using them in my cards. I have also been going through my cardstock stash and discovered some very pretty cardstock that I have forgotten about. Once again my card has been inspired by one that Becca Feeken has done but I have put my own twist in it by using slightly different dies and cardstock. I love the bright and summery colours I have used and that this card can be mailed easily as it is flat.

My project

I have created a top folding 6″ x 6″ base card out of heavy pearlescent cardstock. I then layered yellow and pearlescent cardstock to create the base for the decorative dies. I die cut layers out of pearlescent and yellow cardstock using the dies from the A2 Scalloped Borders One Dies from Spellbinders. I have slightly decreased the size of the top two layers to create some interest.

I die cut a large and medium label from the Amazing Paper Grace Francesca Labels – the larger label from yellow cardstock and the smaller from pearlescent card stock and these were added to the top of the card. I then die cut the band using the die from the Spellbinders Romantic Agenda set out of pearlescent card stock and then added some yellow cardstock behind it. I die cut two small ovals from the Spellbinders Floral Ovals die – one from pearlescent cardstock and one from yellow. I removed the little stars from the pearlescent oval and added the yellow oval behind so the yellow stars would show. I then added this oval behind the embossed oval on the band. This was then added to the card over the base of the labels as shown.

I reverse hot foiled the sentiment from the Spellbinders Be Bold Glimmer Sentiment in gold and die cut with the coordinating die. I die cut two extra plain dies and stacked them together with the foiled sentiment on top. This was added to the top of the card as shown.

I die cut flowers and leaves from the Spellbinders Be Bold Blooms from blue, yellow and green cardstock. I die cut the leaf accents out of gold cardstock and then added the flowers and leaves to the top left of the card and peeking out of the bottom right of the band.

I die cut two butterflies from the Amazing Paper Grace Butterfly Bliss Garden Shutters Dies out of pearlescent, yellow and gold cardstock, assembled them and adhered them to the card as shown.

To finish I added pearls to the centre of the band, around the sentiment and the top corners.
