Autumn is coming

Hello there

Autumn is finally here and the leaves are starting to change colour and to celebrate some rain and cooler weather at last, I have created an autumn layout on my StoryBook Creator 4.0.  I have used the Fall Appreciation 2012 kit as the colours are very autumnal.

The layout was a sketch from an Artful Crafts competition and I inserted photo boxes to create the background layers.  Other than that this layout was a matter of clicking and dragging the embellishments onto the page and resizing them as required.  I got an honorable mention for this in the competition – I don’t think they had had a digital layout entered before.

I found the Easter Bunny!

Today I went out to take some photos down at the Hutt River and came across an errant bunny in the bushes around the bridge.  I managed to get one photo of it before it disappeared.  I thought the timing was quite timely especially as we have just had Easter in the weekend.  However, I could not find any Easter eggs – lol!

While on Easter I have just purchased the Creative Memories Border Maker rustic fence cartridge and I could not resist making one last Easter card with it.  I can see myself using this cartridge a lot – and distressing it with inks as well.  This would look lovely with flowers and leaves climbing up on it on a card.  This cartridge is while stocks last only.

It seems strange to put a cute lamb on an Easter card in the southern hemisphere as Easter is a sign of Autumn for us with the changing colours of leaves and cooler temperatures (?), but it is a sign of rebirth that is universal.  I also love using the Classic Stickers from Creative Memories they are so colourful and pretty. Plus they are reasonably priced.

The sentiment on this card was last weeks freebie from Creative Memories that I printed off from my StoryBook Creator, as well as the background paper.

Handcrafted cards

Hi there

I have added some new photos of cards that I have just completed on my Crafty Creations page.  I have used a mix of different products to create 10 cards out of one sheet of die cut paper tole images.  Very economical to make a themed set of cards and would be great in a set as a gift.  This sheet is lovely with the metallic finish and looks great as a three dimensional embellishment.

Reflections of cards

Welcome back

When I was at Crafty Angels last week I did these cards out of one piece of 12 x 12 cardstock.  I love using the Reflections range to make cards as the colours are so peaceful and serene.  The flowers are gorgeous as well, topped off beautifully by the bling from the Enchanted range.  You can also see I have made a daisy from a previous post as well as using the border maker picket fence and twinkle chain cartridge.

The background paper in the middle card was printed off from my StoryBook Creator 4.0.  I find that is a great way to get different papers when I need something in a hurry.  I have also used it for doing sentiments, as well as in the last card.

I must confess to using my Cuttlebug and Spellbinders dies as well as some Stampendous and Stamp’n’Up stamps for the sentiments.

Nature at it’s best.

Welcome back.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and taking the time to like my posts.  It is lovely to get all the feedback about my crafty endeavours.

Today I am combining my photography with my digital art.   Yesterday I took advantage of the beautiful weather to go down to the Hutt River and take some photos.  The scenery is just amazing there and I managed to get some great photos.  Today I have done a very simple artwork with my StoryBook Creator 4.0 and will look at getting this made into a photo panel to hang on the wall.

Unfortunately, some of the photo was lost translating from a 6 x 4 image to a 12 x 12 image, but the photo is still great.  I did not want to play around with it too much and lose the great colours and depth of field.

In the middle of winter I can look back at this image and it will remind me that winter does end and that summer will come eventually.

To create this all I did was use a full-page photo layout and then just added the freebie sentiment.  Took all of a couple of minutes to do.    How simple is this!  And what a great gift it would be as well.  I will look at making this into a card as well and do something very similar.

Incidentally, despite the glorious weather we are still in drought conditions and we have severe water restrictions which may hamper my photography around my little garden – or it may not… I might see some very different and interesting shapes out in the garden before the big dry ends.

Easel paper pad holder

As I said yesterday I have been busy with my crafts as well as my camera.  I have been trying to design an easy paper pad holder that I can teach to my friends at my Crafty Angels group later in the year.  I wanted to create an easy and economical gift that people can do at home.

For these projects I have used paper and cardstock that I have had for a few years.  They are different brands, but I was able to match the colours quite nicely.  Use whatever you have and embellish as you would like.

After working through some prototypes here is the final product with instructions:

Here are the pieces I have used to make this pad holder:

Materials for making easel paper pad holders for gifts

Cut a 4″ x 8 ”  piece of base cardstock and score it at 4″, 5″, 6″ and 8″.  Fold as per the easel card with the last 1/2 ” folded in to help anchor the easel a lot stronger.

To continue with the easel card place tape on the fold to create the easel.  I have used double-sided tape as it is much stronger than the tape runner that I normally used.Tap on the easel fold The fold adhered down on card

Cut out a piece of card stock 8″ x 4″ ( or length to fit whatever size of pad).  Cut a piece of patterned paper 7 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ and then adhere it to the cardstock

Then adhere this card to the base of the easel.

Then place double-sided tape onto the last fold and adhere it to the base of the long card.  This will help stabilise the easel.

Cut out a piece of patterned paper to match the cardstock 3 3/4″ x 1 3/4 to cover the top of the easel card.  (I seemed to have missed taking a photo of this step – sorry).

Cut out a die cut tag and stamp your greeting on it.  Here I have used a stamp from Kaiser craft.  Adhere it to the front of the easel.

To make the base stronger I used a  piece of heavy chipboard that came with my card stock packs from Creative Memories and cut it 4″ x 8″.  Use double-sided tape to adhere it to the base of the card.  Trim with scissors if necessary. (Depending on how strong your card base is you may miss this step).

Add embellishments to finish.

More rugged baby boy

While the weather has turned to rain (much needed to break our drought thank goodness!  We have a total water ban on at the moment.) I have completed another couple of pages for my son’s scrapbook album.  This time I have kept the pages simple and used a white page for the background.  I love the combination of the border maker picket fence and twinkle chain cartridges and was really pleased with the combination of the yellow and the blue.  The blue complemented the clothes we are wearing in the photos and the yellow helped to highlight as well as James was wrapped in a yellow blanket.  I use colour a lot when I am scrapbooking as I find that the right colour behind the photo really highlights the photo.  I also like to keep embellishments to a minimum as well so as not to overpower the photograph and journalling. These photos are rather special as James was my grandmother’s only great grandchild and died when he was about 18 months old.  So it is lovely to have the whole family in the photo.Rugged Baby Boy scrapbook page Rugged Baby Boy Scrapbook pageMaterials used:

Pinterest Inspiration

Hi there

Following on from my Facebook digital art I decided to do a layout for Pinterest.  I have got a lot of inspiration for my crafts from Pinterest and this is my acknowledgment of the influence it has on my creations.  I have still managed to make the page pink, despite Pinterest having a red logo.  If you haven’t guessed it yet my favourite colour is pink and if I can I add pink somewhere I will.  A rose also managed to sneak in on the page as well.   I have copied and pasted the logos of Pinterest from a Google search. For further information about how I achieved this layout please head over to my Digital Creations page.

Time for Easter

Hello again.

I would like to thank everyone for their feedback on my blog.  It is gratifying to know that I am on the right track and people are enjoying my writing.

Unfortunately, my creative brain has gone missing in action for the last week or so, but I have managed to do a couple of Easter Cards using the Classic Stickers – Easter and easel cards.  I managed to get to my Crafty Angels group on Thursday and teach some of my friends how to do these cards and they were very pleased with the results.  They are so easy to make and I love the Classic Stickers.
