Tutorial for a 6″ x 4 1/4″ Double Side Step Card.

Hello again

I have been overwhelmed by requests for instructions on how to do a double side step card for a 6″ x 4 1/4″ size.  The instructions I had given in yesterday’s post was for a 5″ x 7″ card which is great if you want to give a card personally, but here in New Zealand you have to pay twice for postage for an oversized card.  Plus most of the envelopes I use are for the smaller size.

For this tutorial I have just used a piece of paper to keep as a template for future use, which I found is very useful, especially for scoring and cutting lines.  You can lay it over the cardstock to help you with scoring and folding.

Here is the finished template with measurements.  Sorry this is all handwritten as I am not familiar with using word to draw diagrams and also I wanted to get this post out quickly.  I hope you find this easy to read and use.  Let me know if there are any problems.

Double side step card instructionsNow for the step by step instructions:

1) Cut a piece of paper/cardstock to 8 1/2″ x 6 ”

Double side step card instructions2) Using the ruler on your trimmer if you have one (or measure with ruler and pencil, and then cut with a sharp craft knife ) cut in 1 1/2 inches in from the long edge of the cardstock from 1″  to 7 1/2 inches along the 8 1/2 inch edge.

Double side step card instructions Double side step card instructions3) Turn the paper/cardstock around and do the same on the other side.

Double side step card instructions Double side step card instructions4)  Using a scoring product (I have used a ScorPal) or measure with a pencil and ruler score the first line between the cut edges at 1″ from the left.

Double side step card instructions5)  Score the next line at 1 3/4′ from the left side.

Double side step card instructions6)  Score the next line at 3 1/2″ from the left.

Double side step card instructions7)  Score the entire paper/cardstock at 4 1/4″ as this is the centre fold of the card.

Double side step card instructions8)  The final scoring line is at 5 3/4 from the left side.

Double side step card instructions9)  Now start folding the crease lines from left to right.  I have used the terms ‘valley’ and ‘mountain’ to describe a fold going up or down.  The first fold is a ‘mountain’ fold which appears to rise up towards you.

Double side step card instructions

10)  The second fold is a ‘valley’ fold.  That is the fold goes down away from you.

Double side step card instructions11)  The third fold is another ‘mountain’ fold to create a v-shape.

Double Sided Step Card12)  The fourth fold is a ‘valley’ fold.

Double Sided Step Card13)  The final fold is a ‘mountain’ fold

Double Sided Step Card14)  Finally fold the center folds of the outside pieces as a ‘mountain’ and there you have a double side step card.

When I matted the cardstock and papers I trimmed down by either 1/4 or 1/8th inches on the short and long sides to create a nice even trim.  For further information about how I have done this please click here.

I hope that these instructions are easy to follow and I look forward to seeing what people can make with these instructions on Facebook.

Happy Crafting.

Special cards for the budding ballerina

Welcome back.

I have been busy going through all my stash and found these gorgeous papers that I bought years ago when I first starting scrapbooking.  They are from K & Company and the pack is called Hopscotch.  I have no idea if they are still available, but the papers make beautiful cards.  I have already done a couple of layouts of my ballet forms from many years ago and will perhaps keep a couple of papers for layouts for my daughter for when she did ballet.  I managed to match up the colours with various cardstock that I had already and I am really pleased with how they turned out.  For most of these cards I have distressed the edges and that has helped with making the different papers stand out more from the backgrounds.  The little pictures of flowers, butterflies and tutus have been fussy cut out from the paper.  These cards have been easy as the paper and colour coordination was made easy by using the same range of papers.

I am sure these will go down a treat at Make Shift.

Here they are:

I hope you all keep well and safe and Happy Crafting

Stretching resources – a 12 photo scrapbook layout

Hi there

Thank you to all for all the support that I have received over the last few days since we received our sad news.  I am unable to add much more at this stage except to say that we have some incredibly good deals going at the moment.  These are up on my website at this point in time, so if you would like anything please feel free to contact me.  I don’t know how long these deals will keep so you will need to get in quick.   I would like to think that there will  be some positive resolution to our current difficulties and that we will still be able to access the wonderful Creative Memories Products in the future.  I have also been very heartened with all the support from the other consultants and the way we are all helping each other to get products to all our customers.

Following on my post the other day here is a layout that I did last year on my daughter’s photo album.  This page has 12 photos in it and I have trimmed off all the excess that I didn’t need and the end result is quite pleasing.  Plus I was able to use a lot of photos, which saved on pages and resources, and I got through a lot of photos in one hit!  There is no embellishments on this page, except for me writing down the names of all the people that attended my daughter’s Christening so many years ago.  This highlights the fact that we do not need to add all the embellishments to create an effective page.  Memory keeping is about writing down our memories so our children and grandchildren can look back and understand what was going on.  The embellishments are the decorative element and really should be secondary to what the photos are about.  Less is more!  And when times get tough we just have to get back to the basics to help our supplies stretch further.

Handcrafted cards

Hi there

I have added some new photos of cards that I have just completed on my Crafty Creations page.  I have used a mix of different products to create 10 cards out of one sheet of die cut paper tole images.  Very economical to make a themed set of cards and would be great in a set as a gift.  This sheet is lovely with the metallic finish and looks great as a three dimensional embellishment.

Here is just one of them – check out the rest on my Crafty Creations page:

As you can see my template for an Easel card has been utilised to great effect here.

I hope you are all having a crafty Easter.

Easel paper pad holder

Hello

As I said yesterday I have been busy with my crafts as well as my camera.  I have been trying to design an easy paper pad holder that I can teach to my friends at my Crafty Angels group later in the year.  I wanted to create an easy and economical gift that people can do at home.

For these projects I have used paper and cardstock that I have had for a few years.  They are different brands, but I was able to match the colours quite nicely.  Use whatever you have and embellish as you would like.

After working through some prototypes here is the final product with instructions:

The completed pad with embellishmentsInstructions:

Here are the pieces I have used to make this pad holder:

Materials for making easel paper pad holders for gifts

Cut a 4″ x 8 ”  piece of base cardstock and score it at 4″, 5″, 6″ and 8″.  Fold as per the easel card with the last 1/2 ” folded in to help anchor the easel a lot stronger.

The folds for the easel supports

To continue with the easel card place tape on the fold to create the easel.  I have used double-sided tape as it is much stronger than the tape runner that I normally used.Tap on the easel fold The fold adhered down on card

Cut out a piece of card stock 8″ x 4″ ( or length to fit whatever size of pad).  Cut a piece of patterned paper 7 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ and then adhere it to the cardstock

Patterned paper for base Patterned paper adhered to base of pad

Then adhere this card to the base of the easel.

The base of pad adhered to the easel supports

Then place double-sided tape onto the last fold and adhere it to the base of the long card.  This will help stabilise the easel.

Tape on the fold to support the easel The easel now taped to together to create the easel

Cut out a piece of patterned paper to match the cardstock 3 3/4″ x 1 3/4 to cover the top of the easel card.  (I seemed to have missed taking a photo of this step – sorry).

Cut out a die cut tag and stamp your greeting on it.  Here I have used a stamp from Kaiser craft.  Adhere it to the front of the easel.

Die cut tag adhered to the easel

To make the base stronger I used a  piece of heavy chipboard that came with my card stock packs from Creative Memories and cut it 4″ x 8″.  Use double-sided tape to adhere it to the base of the card.  Trim with scissors if necessary. (Depending on how strong your card base is you may miss this step).

Heavy cardboard base with tape on it

Adhere the paper pad to the card with double-sided tape.

The base of the paper pad is taped up ready to adhere to the base

Add embellishments to finish.

Here is the finished article again with embellishments added on to it.

Here are the earlier versions of my templates.

These would make great gifts or stocking fillers at Christmas time with a nice pen to match.

Materials used:

Creative Memories rotary trimmer

Creative Memories card

Double sided tape

Creative Memories tape runner

Kaisercraft stamp

Spellbinders Fancy Framed Tag Two die

Stampin’Up Black ink

Cardstock, patterned paper and various embellishments that I have had for a number of years

I hope you have fun to make these and that it is not too difficult to follow the instructions.

Have a great day.
